On January 24, 2013 the New Jersey Supreme Court issued an order establishing Multi-County Jurisdiction for all Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II implant cases in Bergen County, New Jersey. Both of these Stryker hip implant systems were voluntarily recalled in July 2012.
In August 2012, Searcy Denney filed the first Rejuvenate case in the country in Bergen County. After many more cases were filed in Bergen County, a petition was served asking the Supreme Court to assign all of the cases filed in New Jersey to Judge Martinotti in Bergen County.
Pursuant to the court’s recent order, Judge Martinotti will now be in charge of coordinating all pretrial discovery in the Stryker litigation. In addition, he will be responsible for establishing a trial process to identify and select the first cases in the country to be tried.
Judge Martinotti is an experienced jurist who has tackled complex litigation matters. He currently is in charge of the DePuy ASR recall litigation in New Jersey. His experience handling a major hip implant recall litigation should serve the parties well in the Stryker cases.
